Labour would recruit 10,000 more police officers (PA Wire)

An extra 10,000 bobbies would be put on the beat in England and Wales by Labour, Jeremy Corbyn will promise on Tuesday. The recruitment drive would be funded by reversing cuts to capital gains tax.
The police workforce currently stands at around 122,900, a fall of 22,000 from its high point eight years ago, and down by 2,700 over the last 12 months.
Mr Corbyn will commit himself to reversing the trend by funding another 10,000 officers who would be directed to community policing roles. The Labour leader will turn his campaign focus on to law and order during a visit to Southampton, pointing to nationwide increases in recorded crime last year, including rising numbers of murders and firearms offences.
