Labour ‘urgently investigating’ PPC racism allegations


The Labour Party is ‘urgently investigating’ allegations that one of its parliamentary candiates is behind a Twitter account said to have made racist comments.

Cabbies’ chief Trevor Merralls, the candidate for Old Bexley and Sidcup, has categorically denied any involvment in the @wellingblueboy Twitter account.

However, the account did previously feature what appears to be a picture of Mr Merralls as a profile picture and was previously mentioned as his account by both a Labour MEP and a union organiser, following an appearance by Mr Merralls at a 2016 Blue Labour event:

The ‘wellingblueboy’ account appears to have been deleted from Twitter after it was publicly linked to Mr Merralls. A Labour spokesperson said that if the allegations were found to be true…
