Bosses tricking zero-hours staff out of holiday pay : Morning Star

RUTHLESS bosses are conning workers on zero-hours contracts into believing they have no right to a holiday.

A study by the charity Citizens Advice found yesterday that some employers were deliberately flouting the law and exploiting workers’ confusion around the issue.

It called on the next government to ensure workers are aware of, and able to take, the paid holiday to which they are entitled.

In the last financial year almost 185,000 people were helped by Citizens Advice on employment issues, with 10,000 cases specifically about paid holiday.

The charity cited one man who worked in a care home for 48 hours a week for more than five years.

His employer told him night workers are not entitled to paid holiday, depriving him of £8,900, while a woman working in the sales sector was told she could take holiday only if she met her sales targets, which is unlawful, the…
