Ruth Davidson toes Theresa May’s Tory party line by waffling about benefits : Daily Record.


The Scottish Conservative leader dodged the question about Scots army veterans being reliant on foodbanks after the Record exposed the scandal.

Ruth Davidson rolled out what is becoming the Tories’ stock response yesterday when challenged by the Record on the latest foodbank scandal.

Our reporter asked what her party would do about revelations in yesterday’s paper that an army of veterans are having to rely on handouts to survive.

But instead of tackling the issue directly, she rolled out the line used by Prime Minister Theresa May by saying there are “complex reasons” people struggle to scrape together cash to eat.

The head of a veterans’ charity hit back, saying the only reason was that they don’t have enough money.

The Record’s story exposed how veterans of conflicts from World War II to Afghanistan are relying on charity.
